A CASED 11-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN SIGNED WILLIAM THOMPSON, LONDON, no visible serial number, made for the Bishop of Durham circa 1840, with 30in. barrels signed, engraved top-tang, borderline and scroll engraved back-action locks signed 'THOMPSON, LONDON', engraved hammers with slab sides, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist and bearing an escutcheon with the Bishop's crest, iron furniture and replacement ramrod (exposed iron surfaces lightly pitted with loss to detail) and complete with a period oak storage case, relined and possibly recompartmented in green baize with reproduction labels inside lid, the tray also containing an original powder and shot flask with later cleaning accessories
