A 12-BORE 1864 PATENT BAR-IN-WOOD LIFT-UP TOPLEVER ROTATING SINGLE BOLT SNAP-ACTION HAMMERGUN, serial no. 5470, with extra barrels,
for 1874, 30in. black powder only damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'WILLIAM POWELL & SON. 13 CARRS LANE. BIRMINGHAM.' and 'PATENT' and '2' at the breech-end, Westley Richards patent no. 2506 of 1862 dolls-head extension marked on the underside 'W.R. PATENT NO. 55', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both; extra 30in. black powder only barrels, the rib engraved 'WILLIAM POWELL & SON. 13 CARRS LANE. BIRMINGHAM.' and 'C', and 'PATENT' and '2' at the breech-end, Westley Richards patent no. 2506 of 1862 dolls-head extension marked on the underside 'W.R. PATENT NO. 205.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, action incorporating William Powell patent lift-up toplever, patent no. 1163 of 7th May 1864, use number 1564, the lever engraved '2' and POWELL'S PATENT', carved percussion fences, Powell patent 'Loaded' indicators, patent no. 1055 of 7th April 1869, bar-in-wood, rebounding sidelocks with flat sided hammers, border engraving, retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/4in. stock including steel buttplate, weight 7lb. 1oz.
