A SCARCE F.A.C. 1882 PATENT 12-BORE REPEATING SHOTGUN, RETAILED BY WATSON BROS. serial no. 1916,
circa 1887, 28in. black powder only bold damascus barrel, engraved 'SPENCER ARMS CO. WINDSOR. CT. U.S.A. PAT. APR. 1882', 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. 1/4 choke, Spencer & Roper patent action, US patent no. 255,894 / UK patent no. 1636 of 1882, with pivoted breech block, damascus tubular magazine with exterior sliding handle which operates loading and ejecting cartridges and cocks the hammer, the triggerguard housing a secondary reversed trigger which also cocks the hammer, plain finish, the left side of the action engraved 'WATSON BROS. 4 PALL MALL. LONDON.', 13 1/2in. likely replacement stock including horn buttplate, weight 7lb. 10oz.



Other Notes: The Spencer Repeating Shotgun is credited with being the first patented pump-action repeating firearm. Despite being well-received by the Shooting Press of the time, their innovative design and effectiveness in the field was not appreciated by the public and never enjoyed much commercial success in Britain
