A .577 (SNIDER) SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING-CARBINE, MODEL 'SNIDER PATENT', serial no. WR234698,
converted from the service rifle circa 1875, with round 23 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight retaining original leather sight protector, the top of barrel forwards of rear-sight signed 'I. HOLLIS & SONS, LONDON', right side of breech marked with later serial number, hinged breech-block with sprung locking catch, plain lock (traces of colour) signed 'I. HOLLIS & SONS' on the bar and marked in a roundel at tail 'MAKERS TO HER MAJESTY'S WAR DEPARTMENT' together with the 'I.H.S.' monogram, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, nickel-plated brass furniture (small losses and flaking), iron saddle bar and ring and single iron barrel-band, traces of finish throughout
