circa 1870, with octagonal 8in. barrel signed 'PATENTED SEPT 14 1858, REMINGTON & SON ILION NEW-YORK USA, NEW MODEL' (rubbed but legible), pinched pillar fore-sight, sighting groove to the top-strap, plain cylinder with rear safety notches, solid iron frame, smooth walnut grips, the left stamped with a martial cartouche (faint) and brass trigger-guard, all major parts with inspector's initials, cleaned with no trace of original finish
