Product Details

TERRY, BIRMINGHAM
A RARE, POSSIBLY UNIQUE 30-BORE PERCUSSION BREECH-LOADING CARBINE, MODEL 'TERRY'S IMPROVED PATENT', serial no. 3,
circa 1866, with blued 21 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight graduated to 900yds., Birmingham proofs and an inventory no. 'PW7002' at breech, cammed bolt at rear operating a rearward sliding top-loading breech-block, the top of which signed 'TERRY'S IMPROVED PATENT No3', plain bar-action lock with reinforced tail (lacking both sidenails), walnut full-stock stamped '44' forwards of the heel-plate spur, brass heel-plate with central iron trapdoor, brass trigger-guard and single barrel-key and band, complete with an iron clearing rod, much finish throughout

Provenance: Purchased by the vendor from The BSA Armoury Collection via Weller & Dufty, 1971.

Despite some early features such as the rear-mounted cammed bolt-handle, this carbine represents almost certainly the last design produced by Terry and could well be a prototype. To date, no others are known. The 'PW7002' number is the BSA inventory number (Percussion Weapon 7002)
