A RARE AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WARS NAVAL CUTLASS, UNSIGNED,
circa 1770, with plain 27in. steel blade with single narrow fuller on each side along the back edge, sheet iron hilt of sail form, fluted iron grip, no scabbard, traces of black paint to grip and guard, 32in. overall

Provenance: Previously sold Sworders, Lot 262, 6th May 2010
These cutlasses were unmarked and forged by local blacksmiths before issue to the young fledgling American Navy, meaning they were of relatively crude but effective construction.
