VENUS WAFFENWERK, GERMANY
A RARE 6mm (SMOOTH) BARREL-COCKING AIR-PISTOL, MODEL 'TELL 3', serial no. 981,
one of a limited number produced between 1936-1940, with round tapering 5in. smoothbore barrel (for use with darts) marked on the left centre '6mm', the underside marked 'IMPORT', the air-chamber stamped 'VENUS WAFFENWERK ZELLA-MEHLIS' over 'MADE IN GERMANY' on the left hand side, articulated flush-fitting cocking link laying along the top of cylinder and stamped 'TELL MOD. 3', together with a depiction of a man holding a break-barrel air-rifle above an apple, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, elevating rear-sight (concealing the serial number), frame with brown mottled chequered bakelite one-piece grip, both sides of grip inlet with 'TELL' trademark medallions with red painted infill, the whole stripped of finish with some mild frosting to cocking link
Provenance: All Tell 3's are rare, but to date, this and the following lot are the only two examples known that are not in .177
