* COLT, USA A .455 DOUBLE-ACTION SIX-SHOT SERVICE-REVOLVER, MODEL 'NEW-SERVICE', serial no. 138568, for 1917, with 5 1/2in. blued barrel signed by the maker and with patent dates to 1905, blued solid frame with swing-out fluted cylinder and marked on the side-plate with the Colt 'Rampant Horse' trademark, black chequered hard-rubber grips and lanyard swivel at heel, in a foreign service canvas holster (faults to closure tab)

Provenance: The vendor of this lot has kindly provided us with the following information:

"This weapon was issued to my late grandfather in WW1
Frederick Guy Fountain Browne born 14/03/1888 died 11/11/1963.
He was a doctor in Tarporley, in Cheshire, England. He served in WW1 - Medical field, served in R.A.M.C. attached to the Scottish Division - 2nd Battalion Cameron Highlanders.

I am told he never fired the weapon and it was issued for protection.

He had two sons:
Flight Lieutenant Rowcliffe Fountain Browne Chb 66467, born 14/06/195 died 25/12/2008 (he inherited the weapon).
Flight Lieutenant Guy Fountain Browne 130223 RAFVR 143 sq. DFC, born 02/05/19 died 01/07/1946
