for 1871, with blued round 3in. barrel (finish faded), the top signed on two lines 'COLT'S HOUSE PISTOL, HARTFORD CT. USA' within a bordered panel, the remainder of the barrel covered with American scroll engraving and banded at breech and muzzle, integral pinched blade fore-sight, sighting groove to the top-strap, the margins covered with stylised foliate engraving, silver plated distinctive fully fluted four-shot cylinder with engraved band to rear and scroll engraving over each chamber, solid brass frame profusely covered with American scroll and border engraving (traces of silver plating), the centre of the left hand side of action with a vacant ribbon panel, spur trigger, exposed hammer, further scroll engraving to the back-strap leaving a vacant panel then with geometrics running down to and around the heel, smooth factory mother of pearl birdshead grips and under-barrel ejector rod, fair amount of original finish remaining to iron parts, plating thinned and lost to brass areas
