A GOOD CASED PAIR OF 80-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED TRAVELLING-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1830, with colour-hardened octagonal form side by side 3in. barrels, carved imitation top-ribs, engraved band at muzzles, fenced nipples, border and scroll engraved boxlock actions with dolphin headed side hammers, the top of action signed on both 'D. EGG, PALL MALL LONDON' within a rectangular box, sliding safes for both hammers, finely chequered walnut grips with swollen and gadrooned pommels, initialled escutcheons to wrists, guarded triggers and captive iron ramrods, retaining strong traces of finish and colour and complete with their maker's brass cornered walnut storage case, lined and compartmented in burgundy velvet and containing a small period bag-shaped flask by Sykes, a loading rod, cap-tin and case key, lid escutcheon initialled 'H.C.'
