A SCARCE 6-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED FOWLING-PIECE, serial no. 746,
for 1840, with substantial heavy round tapering twist-iron 42 1/2in. barrel, bead fore-sight, the top of barrel signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO. 170 NEW BOND ST. LONDON' within an engraved needle terminating in a scroll engraved flourish, octagonal breech-block with moulded nipple boss and carved short side and top-ribs, the top of breech engraved with a goose in flight, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang with carved sighting groove, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS', borderline and scroll engraved dolphin headed hammer, heavy walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron heel-plate, single escutcheoned barrel key and heavy duty brass-tipped ebony under-barrel ramrod in plain thimbles
