A FINE PAIR OF 16-BORE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER-PISTOLS SIGNED 'DEVILLERS' WITH BARRELS BY MARTINEZ, no visible serial number,
circa 1700, with two-stage blued slightly swamped 10 1/4in. barrels, carved and moulded bands at the intersection, the top-flats with inlet gold poincons marked 'A.O. MARTINEZ below a crown and above a further gold poincon embossed with a running dog, boat-shaped fore-sights mounted on a silver gilt four-pointed star, engraved and gilded top-tangs with shallow sighting grooves, plain bevel-edged locks with swept-down pointed tails signed 'DEVILLERS' below the lozenge shaped pans, bevel edged cocks, ribbed frizzens with carved springs, walnut full-stocks with carved borders around the ramrod channel and furniture, floral aprons, gilded bevel-edged carved and moulded furniture, long eared butt-caps and lozenge thimbles with brass faced wood ramrods, strong traces of original finish and much gilding remaining
