A 20-BORE FLINTLOCK SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN WITH GILDED MOUNTS, no visible serial number,
Austrian, circa 1700, with 39 3/4in. two-stage sighted barrel etched with the damascus twist pattern and struck at the breech with maker's marks, flat bevel-edged lock signed 'AUGUSTIN SCHOFL' below the pan and 'IN WIENN' on the tail around the rear of the cock, engraved with scrollwork and a vignette of a mounted huntsman with a hound and a flight of ducks, walnut half-stock with raised cheek-piece (probably cut down from full), carved borders around the engraved gilded brass mounts, carved walnut integral trigger-guard with central gilded brass engraved strap and later replacement wooden ramrod.
