29in. replacement nitro chopperlump barrels (by the makers), rib (No.1 gun) engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL' and gold-inlaid '1' at the breech end, rib (No.2 gun) engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON.' and gold-inlaid '2' at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, rounded bar actions with removable striker discs, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, protruding tumbler pivots with gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguards, fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 15 1/8in. well-figured semi-pistolgrip stocks (likely replacements) including 3/8in. ebonite buttpads, No.1 fore-end slightly reprofiled, weight 6lb. 15oz., in a lightweight leather motor case with some accessories and a canvas and leather outer

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this pair was completed in 1913 for the Earl of Sefton as No.3 and 4 of a quartet. The makers have kindly provided the following:

Inlaid with a gold band, mounted with a coronet, and an 'S' in the middle
No. 1, 2, & 4 were sent first
July 1957: Fitters in to 20714, choked 1/2 and Modified
November 1961: restocked with a half-pistolgrip and leather covered heelplate for the Earl of Sefton
August 1971: 20714/5 had the heelplates removed and were lengthened in wood to 1/4in. shorter than original measurement
1975: Guns were purchased by us and sold on, with new barrels fitted to 20715, choked Imp Cyl & Mod
