A 12-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 797,
possibly for 1788 and converted from flint, with shortened twist iron 26in. barrels (one muzzle dented), the top-rib signed in script 'JOHN MANTON & SON DOVER STREET', platinum vents and twin bands to the breech-block, scroll engraved top-tang, bar-action locks with top extensions, border, scroll and gamescene engraving (rubbed) signed 'MANTON', engraved dolphin headed hammers, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (fore-end with old lengthways split) and iron furniture, missing under-barrel ramrod
Other Notes: If correct, this could be the lowest John Manton serial number recorded. Accepted records state that numbers started at 800.
