AN UNUSUAL .650 PERCUSSION SMOOTH-BORE CARBINE, no visible serial number,
circa 1840, possibly private purchase or a Constabulary contract and similar to a Victoria Carbine (q.v.), with a round 27 1/2in. barrel (exterior cleaned and shallow pitted), applied nickel fore-sight, no provision for rear-sight, solid round-tipped top-tang, borderline engraved back-action lock signed 'FREDC. BARNES TOWER HILL, LONDON', (faint, frosted) walnut full-stock (toe chipped in antiquity) with brass furniture including large patchbox to right hand side of butt, heel-plate with long top-spur, trigger-guard with pistol-gripped tang, single side-nail cup, two ramrod pipes and moulded nose-cap, complete with a disk-ended iron ramrod probably originally captive but with mount removed.
