A RARE 20-BORE FLINTLOCK BREECH-LOADING RIFLE WITH NOCK'S SCREWLESS LOCK, MODEL 'SARTORIS ACTION', serial no. 37,
converted circa 1820, with 24 3/8in. round stepped barrel, bead fore-sight, sprung foliate engraved unlatching handle, tip-up rear-hinged breech-block with turned lifting handle, the breech-block locking to the barrel by way of an interrupted thread and signed 'AFB' on the inside, engraved tang with prominent standing notch rear-sight, bevel-edged plain screwless lock signed 'H. NOCK' on the tail, rainproof pan, hammer running on the inside of the plate (repaired at neck), amateur replacement walnut half-stock with raised cheek-piece, and later brass mounts, possibly originally a Baker Rifle (q.v.)
