28in. nitro reproved Whitworth-steel chopperlump barrels, rib engraved 'JAMES WOODWARD & SONS. 64 ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. S.W. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, arcaded fences, removable striker discs, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, best fine floral bouquet and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 15 1/4in. figured stock including 3/8in. ebonite extension and 3/4in. rubber recoil pad (the case containing approx. 1in. end section of butt removed), fore-end wood with small crack, weight 5lb. 15oz., in a canvas and leather case with some accessories (including serial numbered striker pot)

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed in 1918 for Hon. B. Rollo

This could refer to The Hon. Bernard Francis Rollo of Keltie Castle, Perthshire. He was born 19th December 1868 to the 10th Lord Rollo and his wife, Lady Agnes Trotter. Rollo came down from Trinity College, Cambridge with an M.A. and embarked on a career in banking, where he held two Directorships. He died 7th February 1935.

He was a cousin of Primula Susan Rollo, the first wife of actor David Niven.
