30in. fine damascus barrels, No.1 nitro reproved, rib engraved 'BOSS & CO. 73 ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.', and '1', bored approx. true cyl. in both, wall thicknesses below recommended minimum;
No.2 black powder only, rib engraved 'BOSS & CO. 73 ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.', and '2', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and imp. cyl. choke, some pitting;
Jones patent rotary-underlevers, carved percussion fences, rebounding back action locks, No.1 with dolphin hammers, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, No.1 retaining traces of original colour-hardening, No.2 brushed bright, 14in. highly-figured stocks including chequered steel buttplates, fore-ends with grip-catch release levers, weight 6lb. 10oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that No.1 was completed in 1872 and that No.2 was built to match it in 1882
