A .577-450 (M/H) SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING RIFLE WITH ACTION OF TRIALS TYPE, MODEL 'MARTINI-HENRY', serial no. 2225,
circa 1880, with tapering round 29 3/4in. barrel, replacement tunnel fore-sight, short sighting-rib at breech signed 'W. & J. RAWBONE, CAPETOWN' and terminating in a triple folding leaf 'Africa' sight with additional standing notch, borderline and partially scroll engraved action of pre MKI style signed on the left 'MARTINI'S PATENT' the right side with tear-drop cocking indicator and side-mounted sliding safety-bar similar to trials type operating from within the trigger-guard bow, walnut butt-stock (old repair at head, traces of chequering), iron 'shotgun' heel-plate, silver shield-shaped escutcheon to top of comb towards heel, short cocking lever, walnut splinter fore-end with traces of chequering and horn tip, fitted with iron swivels and a period leather sling, finish and detail worn throughout
