26in. octagonal bold twist barrel, converted from muzzle loading with F.E. Schneider and J. Snider patent hinged breech block, patent no. 1828 of 21st June 1862, bold scroll-engraved breech block inscribed 'HIGHET & HUNTER. AYR', open sights and bead fore-sight with protector, retaining underbarrel rod with brass tip with worm, non-rebounding bar action lock with high-spurred hammer, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, the makers name engraved in a scrolling banner, the top tang with bold acanthus scrolls surrounding a small oval engraved with a stags head, triggerguard with a vignette of a running stag, engraved pineapple finial and chequered steel skeletal pistolgrip, the hand mounted with rear-sight mount bases, 14 1/4in. figured stock including steel buttplate, weight 4lb. 15oz.
