A FINE CASED PAIR OF 12mm PERCUSSION TARGET-PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1860, with blued octagonal 10 1/2in. barrels, the flats twisting through a 1/16th for the front half of the barrels, each edge with bright blind flutes, the breech ends and top-tangs fully border and scroll engraved, numbered '1' and '2' in gold respectively and with standing notch rear-sights, the barrel flats near breech signed on the left 'FABRIQUE PAR LE PAGE FRERES A LIEGE', the top flats 'MAISON A PARIS' and the right flat 'POUR ML ARENAS MADRID', scroll and vine engraved bar-action locks with en-suite hammers, ebonised half-stocks with fluted butts, the sides and rear of grip carved with acanthus scroll, similar carving to the fore-end tip, scroll engraved steeple butt-caps and spurred trigger-guard bows, no provision for ramrods, both pistols retaining virtually all their original finish and appearing little used; TOGETHER WITH their manufacturers walnut case fitted out in the Continental style with green baize (some moth grazing) and containing a full compliment of original accessories as supplied, the lid with paper trade label for Le Page Freres and showing facsimilies of the medals won at the Paris exhibition of 1855
