A SCARCE FACTORY ENGRAVED .44 PERCUSSION SIX-SHOT REVOLVER, MODEL 'DRAGOON, 3RD MODEL', serial no. 12400,
for 1852, with round 7 1/2in. barrel, squared slab-sided breech, the top signed 'ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY' within an engraved border, the sides of breech fully covered in borders and American scrolls, similarly engraved open-frame signed in a banner 'COLTS PATENT', plain cylinder with roll-engraved scene of Texas Rangers engaging Indians and also marked 'MODEL U.S.M.R.', engraved hammer-sides, silver plated scroll engraved brass grip-straps, the backstrap with central cartouche engraved 'CHARLES NEPHEW & CO, CALCUTTA', smooth figured walnut one-piece grip and under-barrel rammer with engraved hinge, no finish except the silver plated parts of which much plating remains
