A 20-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED CAPE-RIFLE, no visible serial number,
probably converted from flintlock circa 1830, with octagonal profiled rifled and smoothbore barrel group, the left-hand top-flat signed in silver script 'ST. KIRCHNER', the right 'IN SUHL', the top-rib 'CANONSTORDUES' (barrels 'twisted'), dove-tailed blade fore-sight and standing notch rear-sight, foliage engraved broad top-tang, flat lockplates signed in silver script and border engraved with foliate accents, hammers engraved with avian heads and serpents to the breasts, walnut half-stock with chequered panels carved around the borders with foliate detail, raised cheek-piece, white-metal heel-plate, sliding wooden lidded patch-box, white metal shield inlaid at wrist with central ivory bead, the fore-end tip carved as a fox's head with inlet glass eyes, moulded and carved horn trigger-guard bow and tang, white metal ramrod thimbles and possible associated ramrod (inlet repairs forwards of locks, cracked and repaired at wrist)
