first third of the 19th century, with 25 1/2in. twist-iron barrels (original length), 5/8in. wide broad flat top-rib, traces of signature, silver bead fore-sight, triple gold lines at breech, screwed plugs with scroll engraved surrounds, border and acanthus scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'HENRY PIPER and possibly converted from an earlier ignition method, carved slab-sided scroll engraved tube-lock style hammers, (one mainspring at fault), walnut chequered pistol-grip half-stock with white metal beaked cap to the pommel, iron furniture including flat-fronted trigger-guard bow and replacement brass tipped mahogany ramrod, exposed iron surfaces corroded
