A CASED 16-BORE PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE FOR DANGEROUS GAME, serial no. 10274,
for 1834, with two-groove rifled fine twist iron heavy octagonal 29in. barrel, the top-flat signed along an inlet silver panel 'JOSEPH MANTON & SON PATENTEES' (refreshed), silver band at muzzle, silver dove-tailed bead fore-sight, rear-sight of one standing and two folding notches, re-coloured scroll engraved breech-block with further silver band, full scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'JOSEPH MANTON & SON PATENTEES', walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist and with clipped corner silver escutcheon inlet behind the top-tang engraved with an oak-tree above a wreath, the tree surmounted with the legend 'STAND SURE', small engraved iron patch-box to right side of butt, engraved iron furniture including trigger-guard tang with chequered pistol-grip spur, rectangular iron swivels and mushroom-headed brass mounted mahogany ramrod; TOGETHER WITH a period mahogany storage case, possibly the original, relined and re-compartmented in green baize and complete with a number of period accessories including a fluted-body copper powder flask, a tin for patches, a nipple-key, two powder measures and sundry cleaning equipment, reproduction paper label to inside of lid (missing lock)
