dated for 1850 and returned to the factory for later rifling, with in the white iron 42in. barrel, solid rounded top-tang, slab-sided lockplate signed on the tail 'SPRING FIELD 1850', American eagle mark forwards of the hammer, walnut three-quarter stock stamped with a martial cartouche to the left hand cheek, iron furniture, two broad iron barrel-bands and twin-banded nose-cap with integral fore-sight and iron under-barrel ramrod
