AN UNUSUAL 28-BORE FLINTLOCK BRASS MOUNTED HOLSTER-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1770, with round tapering cannon-muzzled 7in. brass barrel (slightly deformed at muzzle), iron top-tang, brass lock-plate with borderline engraving and pointed tail, signed 'CASSANARD A NANTES' forwards of the hammer, (head of frizzen screw absent, hammer slightly bent), walnut full-stock with floral carving around the top-tang, oval brass escutcheon inlaid at wrist (replaced in antiquity), further carved borders alongside the trigger-guard and ramrod channel, large cast and engraved solid brass pommel in the form of a dog's head, moulded and engraved side-plate (front side nail missing), pillar-fronted trigger-guard bow, brass ramrod thimbles and missing ramrod
