A FINE CASED 20-BORE FLINTLOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, serial no. 4250,
for 1806, with browned 28in. twist-iron barrels, the top-rib raised towards the breech and signed in script 'JOSEPH MANTON'S PATENT ELEVATION', both breech-blocks with silver lines and inlet with silver poincons signed in raised letters 'JOSEPH MANTON PATENT' together with crowns, platinum lined touch-holes, border engraved bevel-edged step-tailed locks signed forwards of the hammers 'JOSEPH MANTON LONDON, trophy engraved to the tails, scroll engraved hammers, border engraved roller-frizzens with touch-hole guards and signed 'JOSEPH MANTON PATENT' along with '1750' to the front faces, rain-proof pans, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, silver circular escutcheon behind the top-tang engraved with four gothic initials (rubbed), iron furniture including border and trophy engraved trigger-guard bow and brass mounted mahogany under-barrel ramrod; TOGETHER WITH a period mahogany storage case re-lined and re-compartmented in green baize, an original parchment trade-label attached to the inside of lid and containing an original powder-flask and leather shot-belt, a flint-wallet, measure, wad-punch and double-ended shot-charger
