A FULL-DRESS UNIFORM FOR A DEPUTY LIEUTENANT COMPLETE WITH SWORD AND SABRETACHE,
belonging to 'SIR FREDERICK HUGHES' and dated 1889, comprising of a tunic (mothed, damage to cuffs), a pair of trousers with braid (some moth, both items with silver-gilt fittings), a felt bicorn silver-gilt mounted hat in its shaped japanned tin with white feather plume, a further pair of black dress trousers with a matching frock-coat and waist-coat (some moth), a red morocco leather sword-belt with silver braid facing and a silver-gilt buckle, a silver mounted buff leather cross-belt with solid silver faced dispatch pouch and matching dress sabretache and a dress-sword signed 'J.B. JOHNSTONE, DAWSON ST. DUBLIN & LONDON', with 31in. straight narrow double-edged blade etched with scrolls and the Royal Cypher for two thirds of its length, gilt turned-down shell guard with applied 'VR' crest, straight gilded cross-guard with 'D' shaped knuckle-bow, silver wire-bound grip with gilded Victorian crown pommel, the sword in fine condition apart from some loose powdery surface corrosion and complete with its gilt-mounted black leather scabbard and its bullion sword-knot in its sword bag, the whole contained in a tin uniform trunk of the period (qty)
