A FULL-DRESS UNIFORM FOR A HIGH SHERIFF COMPLETE WITH SWORD,
dated for 1900 and belonging to 'JOHN ARUNDEL HILDYARD', comprising of a tunic (badly mothed, lining gone), a pair of trousers with braid (some moth, both items with silver-gilt fittings), a felt bicorn silver-gilt mounted hat with white feather plume, a pair of white kid-leather gloves with black flashes, a pair of patent leather boots (badly distressed), a black silk arm-band (worn for Queen Victoria's funeral), a red morocco leather sword-belt with silver braid facing and a silver-gilt buckle and a dress-sword signed 'ROBERTS & PARFITT, JERMYN ST. LONDON', with 32in. straight narrow double-edged blade etched with scrolls and the Royal Cypher for two thirds of its length, gilt turned-down shell guard with applied 'VR' crest, straight gilded cross-guard with 'D' shaped knuckle-bow, silver wire-bound grip with gilded Victorian crown pommel, the sword in fine condition apart from a couple of isolated fresh corrosion spots and complete with its gilt, mounted black leather scabbard, bullion sword-knot and a sword bag (latter distressed), the whole contained in a tin uniform trunk of the period (qty)
