AN 1897 PATTERN BRITISH OFFICER'S SWORD, serial no. 52417,
circa World War One, with straight 32 1/2in. etched blade edged only at the tip, broad central blind fuller for two thirds its length, inlaid proof mark at forte, the reverse signed 'BY WARRANT, HENRY WILKINSON, PALL MALL LONDON', plated half basket hilt pierced with a 'GRV' cypher and honeysuckle scrolls, rolled inner edge, wire-bound sharkskin grip, chequered back-strap with domed pommel cap, together with its leather field service scabbard
