28in. sleeved nitro barrels, rib engraved 'CHARLES HELLIS & SONS. 119. EDGWARE ROAD. HYDE PARK. LONDON. W.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, automatic safety, border and scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 14 3/8in. stock, weight 6lb. 2oz., in a canvas case, the outer marked 'THE LORD PLUNKET', together with two canvas and leather cartridge bags gold tooled with 'P' surmounted by a four-pearled coronet

Provenance: This shotgun is the former property of Lt. Col. Patrick Plunket, 7th Baron Plunket and is being offered at auction by his son, the 8th Baron.

He was born September 1923 and was schooled at Eton before joining the Irish Guards. Plunket was only aged fifteen when his parents were killed in an air crash and he became the 7th Baron of that name. He served as Equerry to King George VI and then to The Queen between the years 1948 - 1954. His army career continued apace and he had been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel by 1969. He also acted as a Trustee for the Wallace Collection.

Lord Plunket died in 1975 and is buried at Frogmore in Windsor Great Park.
