26in. nitro reproved barrels (in 2011) with raised ventilated matt rib engraved 'GENOSSENSCHAFT - DER BUCHSENMACHERMEISTER - FERLACH - AUSTRIA', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. in both, treble-grip action, toplever gold-inlaid with 'DHS' intertwined, manual safety with integral barrel selector switch, hand-detachable sidelocks, removable striker discs, partially gold-washed internals, the action, lockplates and furniture profusely engraved with acanthus scrollwork on a matt background, retaining traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/4in. figured pistolgrip stock, beavertail fore-end, weight 6lb. 8oz., in a tan leather case, the lid initialled 'DHS'
Provenance: We are kindly informed by the vendor that this shotgun was built expressly for his father, David Southgate, Esq. and completed circa 1966. Southgate was a highly accomplished competitive shot, and had this gun built for skeet shooting.
