28in. black powder only barrels with matt sight-rib, open sights and engraved 'EDWINSON GREEN & SON. MAKERS. CHELTENHAM & GLOUCESTER', Jones patent rotary-underlever, treble-grip action, carved percussion fences, rebounding back-action locks, border and fine acanthus scroll engraving, surrounding scenes of prowling tiger and lion, retaining slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14 1/2in. well-figured semi-pistolgrip stock including heel and toe plates, pistolgrip inset with a semi-precious stone, replacement fore-end wood, weight 10lb. 3oz., in an oak-lined leather case, the lid impressed 'A.W. CHITTY', together with sighting target

Provenance: Arthur Whatley Chitty was born 1824 and served as a Commander in the Indian Navy. His entry in Who Was Who 1897 - 1915 reads:

"In Indian Navy, 1839 - 1883; served blockade of Shugra, 1841; in Sind War, 1842 - 1843; throughout the Persian War, 1856 - 1857; Indian Mutiny and bombardment of Dwarka (received the approbation of Her Majesty Queen Victoria); rescued families from mutineers at Rutnagarie; landed troops on Malabar coast at height of monsoon for protection in Southern Maharatta country; China War, 1860 - 1861; transport officer for Indian Govt. at Suez, 1879 - 1884; agent to Government of India in Egypt, 1884; consulting officer at the Admiralty for Indian Troop Service, 1884 - 1895; member of International Suez Canal Commission, Paris, 1884; in special attendance on H.R.H. (late) Duke of Saxe-Coburg Gotha, conveying a royal party from port to port in the Red Sea, and expedition into Abyssinia in 1862; in command of H.M.S. "Victoria". Decorated for long service; medal and clasp for Persia; medal and clasp for China; two medals for Egypt. Died 18th June 1905."
