A 54-BORE PERCUSSION FIVE-SHOT DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVER SIGNED REILLY, serial no. 7383T,
circa 1858, 6in. octagonal, sighted barrel with engraved muzzle and breech-end, top-strap signed 'REILLY, NEW OXFORD ST, LONDON', plain cylinder with reeded band, border-lined frame, scroll engraving around hammer screw, external 'safety', spurred hammer, chequered walnut one-piece grip with butt-cap, trigger guard with scroll engraving, first pattern rammer to left hand side of barrel, traces of original colour throughout TOGETHER WITH an old pine box bearing a gummed paper label stating 'C. P. A. OMANS COLT REVOLVER USED IN THE INDIAN MUTINY' and containing a number of period accessories including a map, a bag-shaped flask, cap tin, wire cartridges and a distressed patent leather holster

Provenance: The vendor states that this revolver was used by the vendors Great Grandfather, Charles Philip Austin Oman (1825-1876), who was a planter at the time of the Indian Mutiny. It was subsequently discovered by the vendors father in his fathers effects in 1946 in the pine box offered here wrapped in the hand drawn map of Italy
