A SILVER-CLASS GERMAN INFANTRY ASSAULT BADGE,
circa 1941, of hollow-back double-stamped variety with narrow pin back, the design consisting of an oak-leaf wreath surrounding a Mauser K98K service rifle with bayonet attached, the whole surmounted by an eagle with down-swept wings clutching a swastika TOGETHER WITH its original paper packet of issue (slight tarnish spots to award, packet creased and slightly torn)

Provenance: This badge was instituted on the 20th December 1939 and was specifically for infantry units. A bronze version followed on 1st June 1940 for motorised units. Criteria for the silver award were to have taken part in three or more infantry assaults or counter attacks, or three or more reconnaissance missions, to have been engaged in hand to hand combat during an assault or to have participated on three separate days in the restitution of combat positions
