A .577 (SNIDER) BREECH-LOADING SERVICE-RIFLE, MODEL 'VOLUNTEER PATTERN THREE-BAND SNIDER', serial no. 232,
dated for 1863, with blued 36 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight. flip-open breech marked 'SNIDER'S PATENT', the rear of breech marked ''CS' above and between 'L5', the whole over '232', borderline engraved lock signed and dated on the bar and with a crown device at tail, chequered walnut full-stock, brass furniture except three barrel bands and jag-ended clearing rod, fitted with iron sling-swivels
