A .56-50 (SPENCER RIMFIRE) LEVER-ACTION REPEATING CAVALRY CARBINE, MODEL 'SPENCER' PATENT', serial no. 49324,
circa 1863-65, with round 22in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight blade and folding ladder rear-sight, plain receiver with under-lever opening, the top of receiver stamped 'SPENCER REPEATING RIFLE CO. BOSTON, MASS ***' (remainder rubbed out), plain back-action sidelock with external hammer, walnut straight-hand butt-stock with magazine tube concealed in the iron heel-plate (butt hairline cracked along left hand side above magazine tube), side mounted iron saddle bar and ring, walnut splinter fore-end with single iron barrel-band, traces of finish
