A CASED PAIR OF 54-BORE PERCUSSION POCKET-PISTOLS WITH SPRING BAYONETS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1840, with round 2 1/2in. plain turn-off barrels (frozen), short triangular profile sprung bayonets released by the trigger guard bows below the barrels, squared boxlock central hammer actions engraved with acanthus leaves and borders and signed 'BURNELL' on the left and 'TAUNTON' on the right in central oval panels, sliding safes to top-tangs, slab-sided walnut butts chequered along the back faces and around the heels, the wrists inlet with a white metal clipped corner rectangular escutcheon, both pistols with traces of finish and together with a possibly period walnut case relined in black velvet in semi-continental fashion (some compartments loose) and containing a keyed ball mould and a small powder flask signed 'J.D. & S.', the inner lid with paper 'Burnell' label (possibly reproduction), the outer lid with flush-fitting rectangular handle
