AN ULTRA RARE FULL CASED GARNITURE OF SEVEN PERCUSSION SPORTING AND SELF DEFENCE SMALL-ARMS,
circa 1840 and including a fine condition pair of 100-bore brass-bodied muff-pistols with colour hardened octagonal 1 5/8in. barrels (one frozen), engraved bands at muzzles and signed 'JEAVONS' to the top-flats, squared borderline and scroll engraved central hammer actions with concealed automatic triggers and finely chequered walnut bag-shaped butts with engraved white-metal caps; an unsigned 100-bore pepperbox revolver with colour hardened 2 1/2in. six-shot barrel group carved with false side-ribs, moulded iron nipple-shield, rounded borderline and scroll engraved action, central bar-hammer, guarded trigger, smooth walnut grips and iron moulded grip-cap, much finish remaining; a pair of 28-bore holster-pistols with browned damascus octagonal 9in. barrels (some light rust speckling), colour hardened breech-blocks with twin white-metal bands, borderline engraved back-action locks signed 'JEAVONS' (strong traces of colour remaining), en-suite hammers, swept walnut half-stocks with chequered flat-based grips capped in white metal with central trapdoors, guarded triggers, brass tipped ebony ramrods and horn nose-caps; a 60-bore single barrelled rifle serial no. '2346', with octagonal 30in. barrel signed 'AKRILL' at the breech, dove-tailed white metal fore-sight, rear-sight of three folding leaves with silver centre-lines, scroll engraved top-flat to breech-block, white-metal plug, scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action lock signed 'E. AKRILL', scroll engraved hammer, chequered semi pistol-grip walnut half-stock, iron furniture (inlet repair at toe), relief carved gadrooned pommel with engraved white metal central escutcheon, single-set trigger, white metal escutcheons to wrist and barrel-key slots and white-metal nose-cap, replacement iron under-barrel ramrod, eyelets for sling and a 14-bore double-barrelled sporting-gun with browned damascus 31in. barrels (top-rib lifting), nickel bead fore-sight, engraved rib-end at breech, vented platinum plugs, fully engraved top-tang with shallow sighting groove, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'CONSTABLE', dolphin-headed hammers, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture and brass tipped ebony ramrod, traces of colour and finish throughout, the seven arms housed in a fitted walnut two-tier case with brass banding and corners, the lid with flush-fitting circular handle and central vacant escutcheon, hook closure with central lock (key present), the interior lined and compartmented in pale burgundy velvet, the lift-out top-tray with bevelled edges to the sides and containing the pair of muff-pistols, the pair of holster-pistols and the pepper-box, each in fitted compartments (central flask compartment absent from the muff-pistol area) together with a host of further accessories including a large quantity of assorted wads and over-cards including embossed metal top-cards marked 'R. WALKER'S PATENT' in both 14 and 17-bores, four tins of 'R. WALKER, LATE OF LONDON' percussion caps wrapped in marbled paper and wax sealed, a small, a medium and a large copper powder flask, a brass snail capper on a suspension chain signed 'J.S. IMPROVED', a spring cramp, wad-punch, nipple-key, loading rod for the pepperbox, steel oil-bottle with dropper, two further tins of opened Walker caps, soft cap-pouch with 'R. WALKER' label, two steel and one brass double-ended shot-chargers, sheepskin barrel 'glove', two iron scissors moulds and a quantity of cast ammunition, the lower tray containing the rifle and shotgun and a further copper powder-flask, a leather shot-flask, two further lozenge double ended shot-chargers, three further scissors ball moulds (the largest with much colour), a bullet mould signed 'A.H.' and numbered '3458', two adjustable powder-measures and two small ladles, a three-leaf 'carrot' bore-gauge, a three-piece brass and ebony cleaning rod, a 'JAMES DIXON' pewter sandwich tin and a quantity of sundry cleaning items and small spares
