A 12-BORE ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 2168,
likely converted from a muzzle-loader, 29 1/2in. nitro reproved damascus barrels (some light pitting), the rib engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER. 151. NEW BOND ST. LONDON. "PATENT BREECH LOADER".', and with acanthus scroll detailing at the breech-end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. choke in both, carved percussion fences, non-rebounding locks with dolphin hammers, border and acanthus scroll engraving, signed 'C. LANCASTER. LONDON. PATENT.', the triggerguard engraved with two hounds on point and pheasant, retaining traces of colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/4in. figured stock with steel heel plate engraved '2'' and with a pheasant being flushed by a hound, fore-end with cross-pin release and horn finial, weight 7lb. 9oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed in 1850 for Major General Claremont.
