30in. bold damascus barrels, the rib engraved '1' and 'BOSS & CO. 73 ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON.', the breech ends with starburst detailing at the pinfire apertures, the underside initialled 'H.S' for Henry Squires, slender carved serpentine fences, back-action locks with dolphin hammers (one possible replacement), border and bold acanthus scroll engraving, the triggerguard tang with the serial number and '1', 14 1/4in. well-figured stock with steel buttplate, weight 6lb. 15oz., in a leather case
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun was completed in August 1861 as No.1 of a pair, for a J.R. Richardson Esq.
