A 54-BORE PERCUSSION REVOLVER, MODEL 'TRANTER'S PATENT', serial no. 15876T,
circa 1856, with octagonal 6in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, the top-strap borderline and scroll engraved and signed 'JOHN HAYTON, GRAHAMS TOWN', border engraved plain five shot cylinder with carved rope-twist to leading edge, borderline and scroll engraved blued frame with provision for a rocking safe to right hand side (missing), sprung cylinder arbor catch (missing locking piece), double action mechanism with spurred hammer and guarded trigger (return spring a/f), chequered swept semi saw-handled walnut butt, engraved blued butt-cap and fitted with 'Tranter's Patent' articulated rammer on left side of barrel, traces of blued finish remaining
