A 54-BORE PERCUSSION REVOLVER, MODEL 'TRANTER'S PATENT', serial no. 15876T,
circa 1856, with octagonal 6in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, the top-strap borderline and scroll engraved and signed 'JOHN HAYTON, GRAHAMS TOWN', border engraved plain five shot cylinder with carved rope-twist to leading edge, borderline and scroll engraved blued frame with provision for a rocking safe to right hand side (missing), sprung cylinder arbor catch (missing locking piece), double action mechanism with spurred hammer and guarded trigger (return spring at fault), chequered swept semi saw-handled walnut butt, engraved blued butt-cap and fitted with 'Tranter's Patent' articulated rammer on left side of barrel, traces of blued finish remaining
