circa 1840 and almost certainly British Officer private purchase, with round iron multigrooved rifled barrel, the top signed 'LONDON' (faint), bead fore-sight, standing notch dove-tailed rear-sight, octagonal form breech-block with engraved band and borderline engraved top-tang, borderline engraved bar-action lock signed 'HEWSON', walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece, brass furniture including large patchbox to the right hand side of butt, heel-plate, square-backed trigger guard with scrolled pistol-grip tang and ramrod throat, plain iron ramrod pipes and stirrup swivels, complete with probably associated mahogany ramrod re-tipped in horn
