for 1838-39, with octagonal 26in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with small auxiliary folding leaf (frozen), traces of address at breech, platinum line and vent (nipple absent), engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved lock signed 'PURDEY', sliding safe behind the hammer, chequered birdseye maple half-stock (broken through and crudely repaired at wrist), scroll engraved iron furniture, pistol-grip spurred trigger guard tang, single set trigger and provision for ramrod (missing both rod and thimbles) exposed iron surfaces darkly stained and rubbed with loss to detail
