AN 8mm CO2 POWERED AIR-PISTOL, MODEL 'GIFFARD'S PATENT', serial no. 4159,
circa 1880, with 10 3/4in. sighted barrel signed in gilt letters 'STE. STEPHANOISE D'ARMES ST. ETIENNE', dove-tailed beaded blade fore-sight, adjustable rear-sight, gilt-filled (probably later) scroll engraved breech-section with round aperture rotating loading tap, the top front stamped with a balloon motif, under-barrel reservoir with three milled bands and bearing the serial, walnut chequered grip with flared spire pommel, much probable original finish throughout
