A FINE PAIR OF 32-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED RIFLED OFFICER'S-PISTOLS, serial no's. 1607,
for 1828, with browned 7 1/2in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'J. PURDEY, 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET, LONDON', multigroove rifling, bead fore-sight, engraved band at the breech, platinum line and vented plugs, full scroll engraved top-tangs with sunk sighting groove, borderline and scroll engraved colour-hardened locks signed 'PURDEY' (much colour remaining), blued bolsters below the right hammer on one pistol and the left hammer on the other originally for belt-hooks, sliding safes behind all hammers, chequered pistol-grip half-stocks with swollen pommels mounted with engraved iron caps, gold clip-corner rectangular escutcheons to wrists, double triggers and steel-mounted mahogany ramrods, both pistols retaining much original colour and finish

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that these pistols were sold 29th June 1828 for the sum of £73.10.0 and resold by the makers 29th March 1842 for £31.10s. They were initially sold to an F. Bruen, then later resold to an E. Coote.
