circa 1790, with 29in. probably shortened barrels, the breech-block with inlet gold poincon signed 'PAYNE' the remainder rubbed out, gold lined touch-holes, engraved top-tang, flat border engraved clipped tail locks signed in script 'JOVER', rainproof pans, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron heel-plate with broad toe, oversize trigger-guard and replacement ebony ramrod, finish worn to iron surfaces
